Enjoying the Ride

While we enjoy the destination, we do love the journey!

Back in April, Jen and I did a bit of exploring. Meandering through Rhode Island and Massachusetts, we tried our best to get as lost as we could – of course, our trusty iPhones were close at hand when required! We prefer to keep our adventures completely open ended. We don’t know where we staying at night until we arrive – wherever that might just be!

After speaking at a conference in Providence, we set out on the open road. We knew we needed to head in a southwesterly direction at some point, in order to head back to New York City. But short of that, we had no specific destination. And that’s just the way we like it! Honestly there is something special, a feeling hard to articulate, for Jen and I when we wander. When it’s just us – lost and no clue what is just around the bend – all we have is each other, our creativity, and our imagination. We let that lead. And there we find solace in the unexpected, the unplanned. In those moments, the most ordinary feels extraordinary! Moments we hold dear.

I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.

While wandering, we are easily tempted by old whistle-stop towns, winding dirt roads, local greasy spoons, and of course any and all thrift stores and antique shops. Oh, and we’re suckers for a good junk store! We’ve slowly collected a wide variety of faire from near and far. Small trinkets to Danish sofas, vintage cameras to mod tea sets; we’re always on the hunt. And we are now starting to share that collection on our online shop. A select number of pieces are now available in the Wayfarer Collection, and we’ll be adding to that catalogue in the coming months. So be sure to check out what’s available!

Another wonderful element of our explorations are the conversations with an array of folks! It’s always a pleasure to connect with interesting individuals from all walks of life. Whether it’s chatting up the cashier at a hole-in-the-wall ice cream parlor, learning about a social library, or even feeding goats, we are never too shy to learn something new.

We love a good road trip! Whether 100 miles or 1400, we’re happy to hit the road. We prefer to meander, finding our way along slowly.

Cruising down a winding two lane road through the Berkshires we spotted a little ice cream shop set back off the side of the road. It was a bit brisk, but opted for a sweet treat. So I whipped the car around and we pulled in, grabbed our ice cream. And to our surprise you could buy a cone of feed for the goats. Yes, you betcha! Jen loved it. And so did the goats!

We'd be thrilled to hear your thoughts, comments, & feedback!
