In New York City, everyone has something to share. But in a city that's this jam packed, it's hard to find a place to do so. We developed the Salt Space to be a transformable venue designed to provide a neutral platform for dialogue and community engagement. In our city, many have become accustomed to a lifestyle of anonymity. We pass thousands of neighbors everyday, rub shoulders with them on the subway, stand silently next to them in an elevator, and yet we often allow ourselves to live our lives disconnected from meaningful relationships.
Our vision was to restore and foster relationships within our communities. With a passion for artistic expression and sincere dialogue, the Salt Space existed to serve the people of New York City by providing opportunities to build community through an accessible space. We understand that talent deserves place. And in New York City, space is a rare commodity. We designed Salt Space to be a place and utility that serves as a platform to develop, nurture, and accelerate human capital.
We believe that human capital is ultimately more valuable than financial capital. So, we developed our team with unique function in mind; to identify, engage, serve, and collaborate with talented individuals and groups to host and program events on a consistent basis in order to develop long term relationships and a strong sense of community. The ultimate goal was to propel others forward by understanding their passions, and supporting their stories. Sounds simple enough, but a daunting task to say the least! One we championed and drove forward.
Build a strong, authentic expression of community. We know well that when an individual has chosen to pursue their passion – their purpose – that individual walks with a sense of authority in their life. Our strategy was rather elementary; engage with those individuals, support their efforts, and help propel them forward. In short, help transform their lives by investing in their story.
We did a lot in a short period of time! We worked with curators, poets, artists, photographers, musicians, DJs, non-profits, prison arts fellowship, educators, dancers, students, and even a marching band. And that's just scratching the surface. We worked with individuals and organizations to program unique events and experiences, then promoted, coordinated, hosted, and cleaned up. Then repeat that process over 150 times in approximately 16 months. A lot of work, and many great relationships forged.
We'd be thrilled to hear your thoughts, comments, & feedback!
